WHAT IS ORIENTAL MEDICINE?

Oriental Medicine (OM - also called Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM) is a comprehensive natural health care system that has been used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness for thousands of years in China and other Asian countries.  OM is unique in that it uses a holistic approach of diagnosis and treatment.  The patient is treated based on their physical, emotional, and spiritual make up.  OM addresses not only the symptoms of a disease or problem, but the root cause as well.

The basic theory of OM involves the concept of qi (pronounced chi).  Qi is the vital energy that flows throughout the body.  When the flow of qi is disrupted, or blocked from injury, medication, or lifestyle factors such as overwork, stress, poor diet, or emotions, then the result is ill-health.   OM recognizes other physiological functions as well, but it is the qi that is the driving force behind all of our physiological processes.  Qi regulates the balance between the body, mind and spirit.  OM strives to regulate and balance the bodies qi to restore health.
